[24 inches wide by 24 inches high]
Now the green blade rises from the buried grain, Wheat that in dark earth many days has lain;
Love lives again, that with the dead has been: Love is come again, like wheat arising green.
[John Macleod Campbell Crum]
Inspired by the text of this beloved Easter hymn, this work images Christ’s resurrection as grain that has emerged from the earth as a ripened field of wheat. Christ, “the first fruits of those who have died [I Corinthians],” is imaged as grain that has emerged from the earth as ripened wheat.
The work, titled First Fruits, was digitally designed and executed as a stretched-canvas print.
