Let justice roll down like water and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. [Amos 5:24]
This work is an abstract interpretation of a waterfall that prompts at least three possible interpretations. Its inspiration is three-fold: a reference to the longings of the prophet Amos (see above), to the incarnational waters of Jesus’ birth (when justice and righteousness assumed human form and took up residence among humankind), and to the waters of baptism (through which we enter into God’s family and are sent out to do God’s work in the world). These varied interpretations point to ongoing commitment to ministries of justice, righteousness, and compassion by the congregation that commissioned its creation.
